State health officials issued an alert this week after West Virginians were possibly exposed to measles at the Washington Dulles International Airport. A case was confirmed earlier this month in a Maryland resident who returned home after traveling internationally, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Health. The traveler was in Terminal A on March 5 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Unvaccinated individuals exposed to the virus are urged to quarantine for three weeks after exposure and seek medical attention if symptoms arise. Measles may be prevented with vaccines. The first dose is typically administered along with mumps and rubella vaccines to youth aged 12-to-15 months and a second dose at age 4-to-6. Residents are encouraged to check immunization records and add a booster if needed.
