A bill introduced in the West Virginia Senate would bring several changes to the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission. If passed, the measure would turn it into a state agency beginning July 1, making it subject to audits and would require legislative approval to new rules. The WVSSAC currently operates as a nonprofit. Eyewitness News said, under the bill, the WVSSAC would operate under the state board, but separate from the West Virginia state superintendent and board of education. The proposed law would also make athletic directors, not principals, the delegated representatives and rule-makers in the commission. The Senate Education Committee has the bill now.
