In an effort to cut federal budgets, the Trump administration, through DOGE, has cut nearly $400 million from the AmeriCorps leading to the termination of about 1,000 programs and 32,000 jobs nationwide. The hardest-hit in West Virginia was High Rocks, a program that specializes in workforce development and training young people for future careers. Eyewitness News said 70 AmeriCorps members were terminated from High Rocks this week and they’re not eligible for unemployment because AmeriCorps is considered a volunteer position, The Tygart Valley United Way relied on AmeriCorps members who helped with its after-school program Flipside.
