Former West Virginia lawmaker Doug Skaff has died. Governor Patrick Morissey confirmed that Skaff died in a car accident on I-79 in Jane Lew Tuesday afternoon.
Skaff served in the West Virginia House of Delegates 2008 to 2012 and again in 2018 until he stepped down in 2023. While representing the 57th District, Skaff served as the House Minority leader as a Democrat before making a run for Secretary of State as a Republican candidate. Skaff was the head of HD Media, which owns and operates the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Herald-Dispatch and other weekly West Virginia publications.
Eyewitness News said the Kanawha County Courthouse will lower all flags on County property to half-staff in Skaff’s honor. He was 48 years old.
