Some education grant funds have been released to West Virginia

The U.S. Department of Education announced on Friday it will be releasing some of the frozen $6 billion in grants that go towards supporting after-school programs. They’ll release $1.3 billion. Save the Children West Virginia is a program that aims to keep kids on track in school by focusing on literacy, math and keeping kids active. They will receive grant money from this intial round of funds being released. They serve rural areas across Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer and Nicholas counties. Eyewitness News said the remaining $5 billion in grants is continuing to be reviewed by the Office of Management and Budget.
