Mason County firefighters to benefit from drone technology

Valley Volunteer Fire and Rescue in Mason County is trying out new technology. Chief Zach Adkins told Eyewitness News using drones gives them an aerial perspective on any things that happens from a structure fire to traffic backups caused by a car accident. The drones also have thermal capabilities that help with locating people and seeing hot spots in smokey conditions. The department pays for their crew to become certified pilots and trains them along the way. Adkins said with the decrease in numbers, he hopes the drones can spark an interest in more men and women to join the department. They pay for the training necesary to operate the drones.
