A Kanawha County prosecutor takes over PEIA case in Ravenswood

A special prosecutor from Kanawha County will take over the investigation into alleged misuse of the state-run public health insurance policy PEIA in Ravenswood. Prosecutors are investigating who received coverage since 2023 versus who was entitled to it. Ravenswood City Clerk Kim Benson was placed on administrative leave in June due to the investigation. During a Ravenswood City Council meeting Tuesday, Eyewitness News reported police officers said a prosecutor from Kanawha County will handle the case after the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office rescued itself.
Police said they have spent 360 hours investigating the case and have interviewed 15 people.
