Selling Jackie Withrow Hospital may be complicated

The state is selling its four long-term care facilities and Sen. Rollan Roberts, R-Raleigh, told Eyewitness News that Jackie Withrow Hospital in Beckley will be one of the more complicated ones to sort out. He said it’s “complicated by FMRS being on there, under two different leases.” The correctional facility behind the hospital has a lease and he fourth floor of the hospital also has a lease.

The state announced last week that it would be selling its four state-owned long-term care facilities to a private company. Jackie Withrow Hospital includes FMRS Health Systems and a correctional facility that also lease the fourth floor of the hospital for a drug rehab program for inmates. It’s not known what will happen to the rehab programs. The closing for the sale is set for Sept. 30.
