The West Virginia Mine Wars Museum announced plans to expand “Courage in the Hollers: Mapping the Miners’ Struggle to Form a Union”, a public history project that commemorates American labor history. In 2022, they completed phase one of the project, with sites in Marmet and Clothier. In the next three years they have plans to add six sites to the project placing monuments and historic markers along the 50-mile route that miners took in 1921 to the Battle of Blair Mountain. The new sites will be located in Charleston, Racine, Madison, Clothier, Logan and Matewan. Sculptures, murals, signs and interactive audio features will be at each site with help from each local community, as well as interactive elements including podcasts, maps, and other digital elements.
