Some big changes are happening inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The city announced on Facebook that crews are hard at work replacing some of the Coliseum’s original seating — parts of which date back more than 40 years.
The renovation kicked off August 15th, and since then, workers have already finished the most time-consuming part, and that’s removing the lower bowl’s telescopic seating. They’ve started tearing out the upper-level seats, and they’re cleaning, sorting materials for recycling, and getting the place prepped for the big upgrade.
The last artist to perform before the renovation was country star Luke Bryan a few weeks ago. The Coliseum is building a brand new telescopic system for the lower bowl and installing fresh, fixed seats throughout.
