A Kanawha County deputy’s cruiser was struck while on the scene of another crash on Interstate 79 Wednesday evening. Two deputies were on scene of a crash in the southbound interstate lanes when another vehicle lost control and struck one of the deputies’ parked vehicles on the shoulder, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy was in the cruiser at the time, but was not injured. Deputies said the vehicle was following too closely behind another car and crashed into it when the lead vehicle slowed down. The second vehicle then lost control and veered off the roadway, striking the cruiser. Investigators said wet roads, speed and drivers following too closely were all contributing factors in the crashes.
