For more than 40 years Heart and Hand Outreach Ministries have been working towards feeding families in the Kanawha Valley. The tradition continued on Sunday with the annual Hike For Hunger aimed at raising money for the ministries’ food bank. WCHS TV talked with Executive Director Scott Jarrett, who said rising food costs are having an impact on the ministry. According to FeedingAmerica.Org one in six West Virginians face issues with hunger. In recent years the need for the food bank has doubled, as they were helping about 10,000 people each year prior to COVID, and last year they helped over 20,000 people. Heart and Hand raised over $50,000 from the Hike for Hunger event, and that will keep the food bank filled for around six months.
