Kanawha County site among those added to the National Register of Historic Places

Six sites in West Virginia have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The new designations emphasize the Mountain State’s rich history and unique heritage, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Tourism. On the list of new sites, the Carter G. Woodson School inKanawha County, which operated as an African American School from 1912-1940 in St. Albans before being designated as the meeting hall for American Legion Post 73. The Spencer Commercial Historic District in Roane County was also added. It’s made up of several blocks in downtown Spencer and includes the Roane County Courthouse.
