West Virginia could soon follow New York as the next state to require insurance coverage for cooling caps — devices that help cancer patients reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. Williamstown nurse and breast cancer survivor Jessica Huffman is leading the effort with Delegate Walter Hall. Huffman says hair loss can deeply affect a patient’s sense of identity, and cooling caps can help them maintain normalcy during treatment. The bill passed the House last session but stalled in the Senate. Hall plans to reintroduce it in January as the “Jessica Huffman Bill.”
