Health Board rejects Jackson County dispensary

The Jackson County Health Board has rejected a proposal for a medical cannabis dispensary in the Fairplain area.

Board members met this week to decide on Bear River Dispensary’s application, which under state law must be approved at the county level. The board voted against the proposal, with one member abstaining.

The decision followed a 30-day public comment period, where many residents raised concerns about the site’s proximity to homes and churches. Others opposed having a dispensary in the county altogether, saying nearby communities already offer access.

Supporters argued that denying the application limits medical cannabis access, forcing patients to travel more than 30 miles for treatment.
