A decades-old cold case is getting new attention in southern West Virginia. Eyewitness News said investigators searched Bolt Mountain along the Raleigh–Wyoming County line Friday for signs of Sgt. James Lee Haynes, who vanished in 1963. One search site, which was the former home linked to a suspect in Haynes’ death, tested positive for possible blood. That sample is now headed to a lab for confirmation. Haynes’ twin daughters, just toddlers when he disappeared, joined the search, saying they’ve spent a lifetime seeking answers. The U.S. Army’s Cold Case Unit and local prosecutors are assisting. Haynes, a decorated soldier, was last seen hitchhiking home before being stationed at Fort Knox.
