West Virginia American Water asks the PSC for a rate hike

A possible utility rate hike is under discussion for West Virginia American Water customers, impacting about 172-thousand people across 22 counties.

Only two customers spoke during a public hearing Monday night before the Public Service Commission. Concerns focused on the company’s aging infrastructure and the need for long-term system upgrades.

According to West Virginia American Water, the proposed increase would roll out in two phases. The first would raise the average residential bill by about 11 dollars starting March first of 2026. A second increase of roughly five dollars would take effect a year later.

Altogether, the plan would generate about 46 million dollars in additional water revenue and just over one million for sewer service, funding system improvements statewide.
