An Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation has led to the arrest of a registered sex offender in Greenbrier County.
Deputies say 55-year-old Robert Dean Shaffer the Second, of Rupert, was arrested this week and charged with possession of child pornography.
According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, investigators allege Shaffer solicited, acquired, distributed, and possessed large amounts of child sexual abuse material over an extended period. More charges may be filed.
Sheriff Bart Baker praised multiple agencies from West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania for their assistance.
Shaffer is being held at Southern Regional Jail, awaiting court proceedings.
