Oil leak in Wayne County being cleaned up by WVDEP

A mine power substation in Wayne County leaked oil into a nearby creek due to vandalism, according to environmental officials. The oil leaked into the areas of Right Fork of Camp Creek and Camp Creek towards Twelvepole Creek, according to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. The DEP said it was notified of the incident on Tuesday. An environmental contractor is cleaning up the oil leak with a vacuum truck. Right Fork of Camp Creek has been remediated and crews are making their way toward Camp Creek and Twelvepole. Remedial measures should be complete by early next week. WVDEP has issued a cessation order to the permit holder of the mine property, meaning that they cannot resume operations until cleanup of the oil is finished.
