New Kroger Marketplace to open this summer in South Charleston

A regional grocery chain is announcing major changes in Kanawha County. Kroger says the first Kroger Marketplace in West Virginia will open in early June at South Charleston’s Park Place development. According to the company, the Riverwalk Mall and Dunbar Village Kroger stores will close once the new location opens, though affected employees will be offered positions at nearby stores. The forty-million-dollar marketplace will be the largest Kroger in the state, spanning 122-thousand square feet and featuring a full-service grocery, fuel center, pharmacy, and expanded home goods, apparel, and toy departments. City officials say Park Place is expected to include about two dozen tenants once fully developed.
