Affordable Care Act tax credits given out during the pandemic expired at the end of 2025.The debate over whether or not to extend those credits was a driving force in the over month long government shutdown. West Virginians for Affordable Healthcare Executive Director Ellen Allen said those credits ending are putting West Virginians between a rock and a hard place. The impacts of these credits ending has resulted in those who reenrolled facing massive premium increases. Allen herself is facing those increases as well, with her premium going up by over 320%.
