Venezuelan national arrested on I77

Earlier this week, U.S. District Court judge Joseph Goodwin ruled in favor of a Venezuelan national who has been detained since a Jan. 13 traffic stop on the West Virginia Turnpike. Judge Goodwin said Antony Segundo Larrazabal-Gonzalez should be immediately released after the man filed a civil complaint calling his detention unlawful. Goodwin wrote in the ruling that the federal government couldn’t justify the man’s detention and violated due process rights under the Fifth Amendment. Larrazabal-Gonzalez was seeking either immediate release or a custody hearing before a neutral party. Larrazabal-Gonzalez, a citizen of Venezuela, was stopped and detained by ICE officers while driving on Interstate 77. According to Court records. he came to America in 2023 and lives in Atlanta, where he has immigration proceedings set for October.
