Wayne County officials are preparing for a systemwide residential flushing of the water system after the latest lab results again showed no detection of mineral oil. The testing follows an act of vandalism at Appalachian Power’s East Lynn substation that caused transformer oil to spill.
The West Virginia Department of Health said Monday night that results from January 30, 2026, found no mineral oil in the water plant or distribution system, but the do-not-consume order remains in effect. While the flushing process is going on, water distribution sites remain open daily at Wayne Town Hall, the East Lynn Fire Department, and the old Save A Lot location in Dunrovin.
Shower and laundry services are available at Wayne Town Hall, East Lynn Fire Department, Dunlow Community Center, Wayne Charter House, and the Wayne Walmart.
