The competitive gaming industry now has a new home in South Charleston.
The South Charleston Community Center opened its new esports space to the public Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. City leaders say the facility is part of a broader effort to modernize recreational opportunities and reflect growing interest in competitive gaming.
Mayor Frank Mullens says the city is looking ahead by investing in new programs designed to bring people together in person, not just online.
The space features multiple competitive gaming stations, with additional programming already in development. Officials say it’s designed for gamers of all ages, including seniors.
City leaders expect the center to host tournaments and community events in the coming months.
