Appalachian Power reveals more about transmission line plans through Hurricane

Appalachian Power has unveiled a revised plan for its Bancroft-to-Milton transmission line project after public feedback.

The roughly 20-mile rebuild in Cabell and Putnam counties would replace existing structures, running from the Bancroft Substation near Winfield through Hurricane and Culloden to Milton.

The updated route avoids the Meeks Mountain Trails behind Hurricane City Park, which is an area that drew strong opposition in the original proposal.

Landowners along the path will be contacted about surveys and easements. The company plans to file with state regulators this year, with construction expected from summer 2028 through spring 2031 if approved.
