Volunteers Are Needed for Warming Stations

Kanawha County nonprofits are preparing for colder weather. They’re asking for volunteers to help staff Charleston’s warming stations for when it’s 15 degrees or colder outside, including wind chill. The Kanawha Valley Collective said last year, a total of nine warming stations opened their doors at some point in the winter and at least 12 volunteers are needed per night. Running the shelters is a joint effort between the KVC, United Way, American Red Cross, and the city of Charleston. The United Way has already hosted three training sessions and is getting ready to hold two more this month. They will be held on January 13 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and January 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
