County Leaders to Vote on Family Medical Leave Bill

The Kanawha County Commission will vote today on a proposal that offers paid parental family medical leave for all county employees. The current policy is that county employees who have been employed with the county for one year are permitted to use up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the Family Medical Leave Act. The Kanawha County Commission will vote on a change to that policy that would allow 12 weeks of paid leave for employees who have been employed with the county for one year and have the birth of a child or have a child placement through adoption or foster care. It also would include an employee who is a grandparent caring for a child. A state legislative bill co-sponsored by two Kanawha County delegates was introduced Tuesday at the capitol.
