Gov. Jim Justice ceremonially signed a bill Friday honoring Bluefield State College more than 100 years after the legislation was written. Senate Bill 122 was originally proposed in 1895, establishing what was originally known as the Bluefield Colored Institute as Bluefield State College, but the bill was never signed by then-governor William A. MacCorkle and became law without his signature.
