A major announcement is expected this afternoon about Fairmont Regional Medical Center, which is scheduled for closure. In February, ALECTO Healthcare Services, sent 60-day layoff notices to 600 physicians, nurses and employees who work at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. Gov. Jim Justice has visited the center and said he would try to save the hospital. On Tuesday, Mon Health System announced in a news release Tuesday that it plans to seek a certificate of need from the state to build a small format hospital in the Fairmont region.
