Boone County man charged in overdose death

A Boone County man is facing charges in connection to an overdose death. Twenty-nine-year-old J.D. Thompson is charged with drug delivery causing death and failure to render aid. He gave the victim a mixture of fentanyl and powdered sugar.

Man hurt in West Side stabbing

Police are investigating after a man was stabbed on the West Side. It happened in the 700 block of 6th Street. The victim is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. One person is under arrest.

Cabell County Commissioners against rate hikes

Cabell County Commissioners are sending a letter to the Public Service Commission, opposing rate increases for West Virginia American Water and AEP. Several other counties across the state have voiced their opposition to the proposal because of economic fallout from the pandemic.

Plan helps pay for broadband

A new federal program will help West Virginia families who need help paying for internet service and buy a computer or tablet. The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program provides eligible families with fifty-dollars-a-month off their monthly internet bill and a one-time discount of up to one-hundred-dollars to buy a computer or tablet.

South Charleston annexing land along Corridor G

The City of South Charleston is annexing around five-miles of land along Corridor-G approaching the Lincoln County line. The expansion will include Alum Creek Elementary School and surrounding neighborhoods. The city is building a new fire station and community center.

Federal assistance approved for Feb. storms

President Biden is approving federal assistance for West Virginia to help with recovery efforts from February’s severe winter storms. The federal funding is available for state and local government, and private non-profits, for emergency work in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam and Wayne counties.
