A memorial service will be held today on the eleventh anniversary of the Upper Big Branch Mine explosion that killed 29 miners. The service will be held at 12:30 next to the Raleigh County Courthouse in Beckley. Wreaths have been placed a t the memorial in Whitesville.

WV American Water taking over Page-Kincaid system

West Virginia American Water will take over the Page-Kincaid Public Service District. The Public Service Commission approved the nearly three-million-dollar acquisition after more than a year of negotiations. The Page-Kincaid system has struggled with inconsistent service and poor quality water.

COVID-19 numbers continue to rise

COVID-19 numbers continue to go up. There are three-hundred-fifty new cases of the virus and two more people have died. The number of active cases is close to seven-thousand. The number of people hospitalized with the virus is the highest it has been since the end of February.

Tax cut summit being held today

Governor Justice will hold a summit with legislative leaders today aimed at reaching an agreement on a plan to eliminate state income tax. The meeting is being pushed back to this afternoon to accommodate lawmaker’s schedules. Justice, the West Virginia Senate, and the House of Delegates, have introduced three separate plans to repeal the tax.

Easter service held at Huntington Mall

Easter service was reimagined Sunday at Huntington Mall. Fellowship Baptist Church held Easter service in the mall parking lot. Pews were replaced with lawn chairs, and applause was in the form of a car horn. The mall extended an invitation to the church to return next year.

Man who killed Capitol Police Officer has WV ties

The man identified as the suspect who crashed into a barricade at the U.S. Capitol, and killed a police officer, was born in West Virginia and attended Glenville State College. Twenty-five-year-old Noah Green was born in Fairlea, West Virginia.

Meigs County Sheriff’s Office investigating murder

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was shot and killed near the old Wild Horse Restaurant on Legion Terrace Road. Twenty-five-year-old Kane Roush died from his injuries at the hospital. He was a standout football player at Wahama High School in 2012.
