WV School Building Authority hears pitches from 30 counties

Kanawha County School Superintendent Tom Williams is first on the schedule today to make a pitch to the state School Building Authority to get part of more than fifty-million-dollar in Needs Grant funding for construction projects. Williams is asking for eight-million-dollars to transition Cedar Grove Middle School into Cedar Grove Elementary.

WV sales tax would be among the highest in the country

West Virginia could have the highest sales tax in the nation at just under eight percent, according to the West Virginia Business & Industry Council. Governor Justice says that is not the case. He says if you look at the combined state and local sales tax rate, several other states pay higher taxes.

App Power asking for rate hike

Your power bill might be going up…Last month’s ice storms damaged the power grid, which forced Appalachian Power to call in out of state help. Now the utility is trying to recoup more than 55-million-dollars, and is asking the Public Service Commission for a rate hike.

Firefighters save home from damage

Firefighters were able to stop a storage building fire from spreading to a nearby home, just outside of Hurricane. The five-hundred square foot storage building was fully engulfed, but fire crews were able to get it under control in about five minutes, saving the home from any damage.
