Trial date set for man accused of killing elderly woman

A man accused of killing a 77-year-old woman and then trying to kill a Charleston police officer last February, was in court Wednesday. Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Drennen’s trial is set for next month. His attorneys say a psychological evaluation isn’t complete, and the trial date may need to be pushed back.

Elderly woman dies from hypthermia

The Boyd County Coroner’s Office says an elderly woman died from hypothermia. She was found dead in an Ashland apartment building where the electricity has been out for several days.

Crews working 16 hour shifts to restore power

The snow continues this morning, and will mix with rain later today, then turn back to snow tonight and early Friday. More than 15-hundred crew members are working sixteen-hour shifts to repair power lines and substations. At least fifteen warming centers are open.

Vaccination Clinic Saturday Has Been Canceled

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department said the COVID-19 vaccination clinic scheduled for Saturday at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center won’t be happening. They decided not hold the clinic out of an abundance of caution.

Daily County Alert Map Shows Improvement

West Virginia for the fourth consecutive day Wednesday had no counties in red on the alert map with the map now dominated by more green, yellow and gold. The state Department of Health and Human Resources map showed Kanawha County in yellow, along with Putnam, Mason, Fayette, and Raleigh. Eighteen counties were in green.

Land Protection Grants Are Available Now

The West Virginia Outdoor Heritage Conservation Fund is taking applications for grants, with up to $450,000 to be awarded. Applications can be submitted until April 2 for small and large grants.
