U.S. Attorneys resign from Southern and Northern Districts

U.S. attorneys for the southern and Northern districts of West Virginia are resigning at the end of the month. Mike Stuart of the Southern District and William Powell of the Northern District were appointed by former President Trump. They offered their resignation letters to President Biden, who will name their successors.

Power outages continue into the weekend

Thousands of Appalachian power customers are still in the dark. AEP crews are working around the clock, taking turns on sixteen-hour shifts to restore power in hard hit areas, including Cabell, Wayne and Putnam Counties. The power won’t be restored in some areas until Sunday evening, when more snow is expected to move in.

WVU student arrested in sledding accident

A WVU student is under arrest for hitting a police cruiser with a laundry cart that was being used as a sled. He tried to run away, but officers caught up with him. He’s charged with fleeing from an officer, disorderly conduct, destruction of property, playing in the street, and underage possession of alcohol.

Charter school bill passes committee

A new charter schools bill passed in committee and headed for the full house floor. The bill would allow ten new schools every three years, and lay the groundwork for virtual charter schools. The legislature approved the establishment of charter schools two years ago, but none have opened.

Republicans outnumber Democrats in WV

Republicans outnumber Democrats for the first time since 1932 in West Virginia. Republicans have the edge by over four-thousand registered voters. GOP officials say the Trump factor helped turn the tide in the past year.

Woman arrested for child neglect and meth

A Fairmont woman is under arrest after police found meth in her apartment. They found moldy baby bottles in the sink, and she was unable to care for the child. She admitted to smoking meth the night before. Child Protective Services took custody of the baby.

Man arrested for trying to grab girl at bookstore

A fugitive from Georgia is under arrest for trying to grab a teenage girl and push her into a restroom at a downtown book store. She wasn’t hurt. Twenty-eight-year-old Shaheed Patton is wanted in Georgia for failure to register as a sex offender.

Man arrested for fleeing during traffic stop

A man is under arrest for running from police during a traffic stop. Thirty-six-year-old Cecil Green took off in his pickup when police tried to pull him over. When the truck got stuck in yard, he tried to run away, but officers caught up to him. Green was wanted for a parole violation.
