Medical marijuana registration starts Wednesday

Registration for medical marijuana starts at noon today. The Office of Medical Cannabis says it’s the final step toward legal usage. A law making cannabis legal for medical issues was passed in 2017, but has faced a series of road blocks.

Capito is optomistic about working with President Biden

Senator Shelley Moore Capito was one of ten senators who met with President Biden this week, hoping to reach an agreement on a COVID-19 relief bill. The senators are hoping to pass more targeted legislation. Capito says that Biden is adamant that 14-hundred-dollars is an unnegotiable figure for stimulus checks.

Trash is piling up in Boone County

Trash is piling up in Boone County. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating an illegal dump site on Lens Creek Mountain, and evidence left at the scene points to a Marmet man. Illegal dumping is becoming a problem in the county, and Sheriff Chad Barker is making clean up a priority.

Man charged in baby’s death

A Braxton County man is under arrest for the death of an infant. Thirty-three-year-old Samuel Workman, is charged with the death of a child by child abuse and neglect. Additional charges are pending.

Bond hearing postponed for man accused in officer’s death

A bond hearing for 38-year-old Joshua Phillips is being rescheduled after a potential conflict of interest. Phillips is accused of killing Patrolman Cassie Johnson last December. A lawyer with the Public Defender’s Office previously represented a potential witness in the case.

Woman embezzles $350,000 from former employer

A Wheeling woman will spend 21-months in prison for embezzling nearly 350-thousand-dollars from her previous employer. Fifty-eight-year-old Cindy Shearer admitted to writing checks to herself, but listing them as paid to a legitimate vendor. She’s also charged with filing a false income tax return, and defrauding the IRS out of more than 50-thousand-dollars.

City Council Meetings Will Change Locations

Charleston city leaders will meet in a different way this month. Mayor Amy Goodwin announced the change for city council meetings and said instead of being held at City Hall or via Zoom, meetings will now be held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Thundering Herd Hopes To Play Home Basketball This Weekend

Marshall hasn’t played a men’s basketball game in Huntington in more than two weeks. There is a game scheduled this weekend against Old Dominion at the Cam Henderson Center and they’re hoping to take the court in front of herd fans for a two-game series Friday and Saturday. Marshall is 9-4 so far this season.
