Health officials are reporting an uptick in COVID-19 numbers, reporting more than 11-hundred new cases of the virus, and twenty-nine more people have died. Almost 170-thousand people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Garrison Avenue moves closer to having a new name

A section of Garrison Avenue in Charleston is moving closer to having a new name. The city council’s Planning, Streets and Traffic Committee passed a resolution this week to rename the street in honor of Patrolman Cassie Johnson. She was shot and killed in the line of duty last month.

Judge denies request to halt in-person learning

A Kanawha County judge is denying West Virginia Teachers Unions’ requests for an injunction seeking to halt in-person learning. The teachers unions wanted to delay returning to the classroom until school employees have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Homes vandalized in Kanawha City

Police are asking for any surveillance video that might help in a vandalism investigation in Kanawha City. Graffiti was spray painted on several garage doors. Seven homes and a vehicle were damaged between 53rd and 55th streets along Virginia, Venable and Staunton Avenue.

Police investigating shots fired on Grant Street

Police are investigating after shots were fired on Grant Street. Several shell casings were found at the scene. Investigators are looking for two men who were caught on security cameras driving away in a silver Nissan. No one was hurt.
