75 dogs rescued from Mingo County property

An animal rescue organization removed seventy-five dogs from a property in Thacker. The homeowner passed away last week, and no one was caring for the animals. The dogs are being examined by a vet, and will recover at foster homes.

Fire destroys Clay Ave. home

An abandoned house caught fire early this morning on Clay Avenue. The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. No one was hurt, but the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man’s body recovered from Ohio River

Kentucky State Police are asking for help to identify a man’s body that was found in the Ohio River at the Greenup Locks and Dam. The body of a white male has no identifying scars, marks or tattoos. Investigators have not ruled out foul play.

Charleston City Council members attend SOAR event

SOAR, the grassroots harm reduction group that distributes needles in the city of Charleston, has been at the center of debate at Charleston City Council meetings. Several Council members joined the group at the Unitarian Universalist Church to see the program for themselves. City Council is considering an amendment to the current needle exchange ordinance.

A Middle Schools is Targeted for Closure
