West Virginia shattered its daily record for new COVID-19 cases, with almost 25-hundred new case of the virus. It’s the first time the state has recorded more than two-thousand cases in a single day. Twenty-three more West Virginians have died from COVID-19, and the state’s daily positive test rate is almost eight-percent.
More than forty people in Boone County received the Regeneron Antibody treatment, instead of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. It happened at a county vaccination clinic. The power is back on for about one-thousand Appalachian Power customers. A power pole snapped at a nearby apartment complex causing a power line to fall onto a home on Austin Drive near MacCorkle Avenue. The home was vacant, and no one was hurt. AEP has replaced several poles near St. Albans.
Bridgeport police are investigating a murder-suicide in the Heritage Farms subdivision. Officers responded to a shots fired call and when they arrived they found a car crashed into a home and a husband and wife dead in the car.
The Kenova Police Department is looking for a man posing as a police officer. The suspect knocked on the door of a home, and said police were going door-to-door, checking to make sure everything was okay. The homeowner said everything was fine, and imposter left. The City of Huntington plans to demolish over one-hundred dilapidated home by the end of June. The building commission has deemed all the homes as “unsafe.” City officials say it’s not only a matter of beautification, but also a matter of public safety. One of the buildings on the list caught fire earlier this week.
Newly elected Delegate Jim Barach is spearheading a new initiative called, “Save Our Town Center Mall,” after several stores recently announced they are going out of business this month. Barach outlined several ideas including, increasing mall security, reducing parking fees, and repurposing closed anchor store into offices or churches.
One man is dead, and another is recovering in the hospital after a shooting in the Sheetz parking lot in Cross lanes. Twenty-three-year-old David Rogers is charged with wanton endangerment.
