The New River Gorge will become the country’s 63rd National Park. Congress approved the designation in year-end funding legislation. The designation is expected to increase visitation by twenty-percent.

A Kanawha County Circuit judge sentenced Cynthia Gatewood to life in prison. She was convicted of stabbing and killing a woman outside a Sissonville convenience store in 2018.

Students at West Virginia State University are off lockdown. Campus police are investigating after several shots were fired in the Sullivan Hall parking lot. One vehicle was hit three times. No one was hurt. Police are looking for the shooter.

Police are investigating after a woman was shot and killed with a crossbow at a home in St. Albans. Several people are being detained for questioning to determine if the shooting was an accident or intentional.

Fire destroyed a house in Huntington. The home on 7th Avenue is a complete loss and at least three homes nearby were damaged. No one was hurt.

The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association hosted an adoption event last weekend after receiving a donation in honor of Officer Cassie Johnson, who died this month in the line of duty.
