News Staff Today’s funeral for fallen Charleston Police Officer Cassie Johnson will now be open to the public. The change in plans will require COVID-19 protocol with a temperature check, face masks, and social distancing. The funeral begins at noon today at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The annual Joyful Night celebration will be held virtually tonight. The Governor and First Lady will light the state Christmas tree, and perform the traditional reading of, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” A live-stream of the program will be available on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, and broadcast on the West Virginia Channel at seven p.m.
No charges will be filed in a Flemington shooting. A woman shot and killed her ex-boyfriend. Investigators say she acted in self-defense.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting at the Maury Village Apartments in Teays Valley. The victim died at the hospital. No arrests have been made.
West Virginia native and record setting test pilot, Chuck Yeager, is dead at the age of 97. He was the first man to break the sound barrier, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Yeager was born in Myra, West Virginia, in 1923.
