Man killed in standoff with WV State Police

A suspect is dead after a standoff with State Police in Wayne County. Officers responded to a domestic call for a man armed with an AR-15 in a camper on Whites Creek Road. Thirty-four-year-old Randy Ward refused to come out and fire a shot at officers. Troopers returned fire, killing Ward.

Casino robbed at gunpoint

A man is under arrest for robbing a Huntington gaming parlor at gunpoint. Forty-year-old Shane Endicott walked into Pam’s Casino with a gun and demanded money. He’s charged with first-degree robbery.

Child dies in Fairview house fire

A two-year-old girl died in a house fire at a home in Fairview. A man and a three-year-old were hurt and are being treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

South Charleston man missing

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing man. Gordon Massie hasn’t been seen since Wednesday morning when he left his home in South Charleston. He was not at work in Buffalo, and his vehicle and his phone were found in South Charleston. Call police if you have any information.

Suspect is officer shooting will face murder charge

The man accused of shooting Officer Cassie Johnson will be charged with first-degree murder. Charges have not officially been filed. Prosecutors are exploring all options at the state and federal levels to charge 38-year-old Joshua Phillips. He was shot twice in the chest and the abdomen, and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Funeral services set for Officer Cassie Johnson

Law enforcement officers escorted the body of fall Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson from the hospital to the medical examiner’s officer early this morning. Officer Johnson’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at noon at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The services will not be open to the public.

Marshall University will host Surgeon General

Marshall University will host U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams for a virtual presentation today. Adams will address the rising spike in COVID-19 numbers and other public health topics. He was invited to speak in February as part of a series of Black History Month events, but couldn’t attend because of flight problems.

Opioid trial put on hold

A federal judge is putting a major opioid trial on hold because of COVID-19, but he may allow some of the proceedings to start remotely. Cabell County and the City of Huntington filed the lawsuit to determine how drug wholesalers should be held accountable for the cost of opioid addition in West Virginia.
