News Staff Friday was record setting day for COVID-19 numbers. There are more than five-hundred new cases of the virus, and 240 patients are hospitalized. Eight more people people have died, raising the state’s death toll to over 450.
Governor Justice is ordering a COVID-19 testing blitz after a record number of positive cases this week. Counties in the “gold” will now get the same kind of massive free testing as counties that are in the “red” and “orange.” The goal is ten-thousand tests per day statewide.

One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after shootings in the Oak Hill area. A man was killed at a home on Dark Hollow Road, and a few hours earlier, two people were found with gunshot wounds on Ohio Avenue. Investigators say the shootings are connected. Two suspects are in custody.
The Huntington Fire Department responded to a fire at the police station. Smoke was detected on the second floor, in the detective’s unit. Sprinklers went off and put out the fire. Investigators say it looks like a desk lamp caught some papers on fire. No one was hurt. There was significant water damage.
Police are investigating a shooting in Dunbar. A woman who had been shot in the arm walked into the GoMart on 16th Street. Investigators say the shooting appears to be accidental. The victim is expected to be okay. No arrests have been made.
Nearly a third of registered voters in Kanawha County have already cast their ballots. More than thirty-eight-thousand people have already voted. Early voting wraps up tomorrow night at five o’clock.
A Court of Appeals is considering whether a juror’s social media exposure, during the trial of former West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry, could have biased her. Loughry’s attorneys say a district court in Charleston erred by denying a hearing based on the juror’s Twitter usage.
