Road improvements approved for former Hobet mine site

Governor Justice is committing funding for an access road and intersection along Corridor G. The forty-million-dollar project will improve access to the former Hobet mine site in Boone County. The National Guard will resume activities at the site, and help market it to the defense industry.

WV receives $17 million victim assistance grant

West Virginia has been awarded an over 17-million-dollar victim assistance grant. The funds will provide counseling, advocacy, and transportation to victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse, and elderly abuse. The money will go to more than eighty public and private non-profit agencies around the state.

Record number of COVID-19 hospitalizations

Governor Justice is warning West Virginians not to let their guard down as COVID-19 cases spike. More than 190 people are hospitalized with the virus, which is the highest number, so far. There are 335 new cases of the virus, and health experts expect the numbers to increase as we head into the holiday season.

Judge dismisses challenge to COVID-19 map

A Kanawha County Circuit Judge is dismissing a teachers union’s challenge to the state’s color-coded COVID-19 alert map, that determines whether schools should be open or closed. Needle exchange program under investigation

Charleston police are investigating a non-profit group that is conducting a needle exchange as part of what it calls a “street outreach” program. Elderly man killed in domestic dispute

An 85-year-old Elkview woman shot and killed her 89-year-old husband. The woman said they were involved in a domestic dispute and she was protecting herself. So far, no charges have been filed.

Man arrested for breaking into deputy’s home

A Point Pleasant man is under arrest for breaking in to a Mason County Sheriff’s deputy’s home. The man came in through a back gate and entered the basement. He got into a struggle with the officer, and was bit by a retired K-9. James Will III is facing burglary charges.

Man killed in officer-involved shooting

A Roane County man died in an officer involved shooting. The man started a fight with his neighbor and tried to get inside his home. I-77 pursuit ends in Wood County

Two Ohio men led Wood County deputies on a chase down I-77. They were believed to be involved in a shooting in Kanawha County. They took off on foot when their car lost a tire, and were captured a few minutes later.

Man shot in argument over flashlight

A man is in stable condition after he was shot in the leg in an argument over a flashlight on 1st Avenue. The suspect pulled out a gun and fired one shot at twenty-nine-year-old Juriah Roncal. No arrests have been made.
