Republican incumbent Governor Jim Justice and Democratic challenger Ben Salango squared off in a socially distant debate. Topics included the Roads to Prosperity program, distribution of CARES Act money, and the future of coal. Tuesday’s debate was the only showdown between the two candidates before the November third election.
Overall, the rate of spread of the coronavirus in West Virginia is dropping. The state now has the third lowest rate of spread in the county, with an Rt value of point-92. Any number under one, means the virus is not spreading.
Two more people have died from COVID-19 in Kanawha County, bringing the county’s death toll to one-hundred. Statewide, there are over 270 new cases of the virus, and nearly 47-hundred active cases. The state’s daily positive test rate is over four-percent.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man wanted as part of a two state drug sweep that led to nearly a dozen arrests. Zachariah Wilson is accused of selling more than 100-thousand-dollars-a-year in heroin and opioids for more than a decade.
