Illegal immigrants arrested for trying to take state electrician’s exam

The state Fire Marshal’s Office says more than a dozen people are under arrest for trying to take the electrician’s exam, while in the country illegally. The Fire Marshal’s Office received several suspicious exam applications earlier this month, and when the individuals showed up for the test, they were taken into custody by Immigration officers.

Ryan’s Buffet closing permanently

Ryan’s buffet, in Charleston, is permanently closed. The restaurant was temporarily closed in March due to the pandemic. Impacted furloughed employees have been notified and have been paid for their remaining vacation and sick time off.

Man arrested for punching officer

A Vinton County man is under arrest for punching an officer in the face, and then leading them on a chase. Officers found 41-year-old Keith Burris hiding in the woods behind his mother’s house. He’s charged with assaulting a police officers, escape, and drug trafficking.

Police still looking for fugitive

Police are still looking for a Georgia man who escaped after a police chase in the Malden area. There were erroneous reports that 32-year-old Eric Nelson had been captured, but investigators say they are still looking for him. He is wanted on federal charges.

Williamson nurse accused of shooting woman

A Williamson nurse, who made national headlines when she traveled to New York to treat COVID-19 patients, is under arrest for shooting another woman. Thirty-nine-year-old Amy Thorn is accused of shooting another woman during an argument. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. Thorn says it was self defense.

Twom more COVID-19 deaths in WV

Two more people in Kanawha County have died from COVID-19, and there are almost 190 new cases of the virus statewide. The daily positive test rate is over two-and-a-half-percent. On the county map, Harrison, Upshur and Mingo are in the orange.
