News Staff People are stock piling hand sanitizer out of fear of the coronavirus, leaving store shelves empty. Kentucky bourbon distillers are pitching in. They are now making hand sanitizer to help combat the shortage.
Walmart is hiring 14-hundred people in West Virginia, in response to high demand from the coronavirus. The jobs are in stores, clubs, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers. Workers will be temporary at first, but many will become permanent jobs.
A suspect is under arrest in connection to a shooting at a home in Pikeville. The victim was shot in the leg, and is expected to be okay. He identified the shooter, and police arrested Ryan O’Neal Smith a short time later.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pursuit and officer involved shooting that ended in Nicholas County. The incident began as a domestic call, and a suspect is under arrest. There is no word on any injuries.
The two-day planned closure at the Toyota plant in Putnam County is being extended to two-weeks. All Toyota manufacturing facilities will close starting on March 23rd and re-open on April 6th. The plants are being sanitized to protect workers. A drop in sales factored into the decision. Workers will be paid during the shutdown.
Governor Justice is order more closures. He’s shutting down the Hatfield and McCoy trails, and all lodges within state parks. The rise of exposure from travelers is too high. State parks will remain open.
CAMC President and CEO Dave Ramsey says health care providers have been abandoned by state and federal government. He says they can’t get the equipment and testing needed to take care of patients. CAMC is implementing a “no visitor” policy, which includes the primary caregiver, with a few exceptions. No visitors will be allowed in the hospital lobby.
The first case of COVID-19 in Kanawha County has been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases in the state to eight. The patient was exposed traveling outside of the area, and is being treated at Charleston Area Medical Center.
