WV opts for new voting app

West Virginia is going with a new vendor to provide electronic voting in the upcoming primary and general elections. The “Democracy Live” electronic voting system will replace the Voatz app after researchers found security flaws in the system.

WV Senate passes Bible class bill

The state Senate passed a bill that will allow Bible classes in public schools. The bill allows public high school to offer Bible-based social studies courses. It now heads to the Governor’s desk.

Gov. Justice briefed on coronavirus

Governor Justice says people should go about their daily lives, and not cancel any travel plans because of fear over the coronavirus. Justice had a briefing from medical officials yesterday. Three people in the state are being tested for COVID-19, but there are no known cases of the virus in West Virginia.

WV House of Delegates passes budget

The West Virginia House of Delegates passed an over four-and-a-half-billion-dollar state budget. The bill now goes back to the Senate, where more changes are expected. The budget includes funding to eliminate the waitlist for intellectual and developmental disabilities waivers, which is a top priority for Governor Justice.

WV Trooper ok after head-on collision

A West Virginia State Trooper is okay after a head-on crash with a wrong way driver on I-79 north of Morgantown. The 87-year-old man was heading north in the southbound lane, and was confused about how to get on the correct side of the interstate. He wasn’t hurt in the crash.

State Capitol evacuated as a precaution

The state Capitol building was evacuated yesterday morning when a fire alarm went off while the House and Senate were in session. There was no smoke or fire, but the building was cleared as a precaution. Charleston fire and Capitol police are investigating.

The state Division of Natural Resources is beginning a project to bring back bobwhite quail back into the Mountain State over a five-year period. Huntington City Council Seat is Filled

Huntington has filled an empty seat on its City Council. At a special meeting Tuesday night the Council appointed Democrat Charles Shaw to the third district seat, which represents the downtown area. Five people were interviewed for that seat that was previously held by council vice-chair Alex Vence, who says he resigned in February.
