A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the family of a kayaker who drowned in the Middle Fork River two weeks ago. The money will go to Jamie Gray’s husband, Wally. So far, more than half of the twenty-thousand-dollar goal has been met.

National Guard on clean up duty in McDowell County

Members of the 111th Engineering Brigade of the West Virginia National Guard are on duty in McDowell County. Nearly two dozen guardsmen are working to remove debris from recent flooding along Elkhorn Creek and the Tug Fork River. They hope to have their work wrapped this weekend.

St. Agnes School closing

Charleston’s St. Agnes School will close at the end of the school year. The private school’s accompanying child-care facility will also close. The parish cites a three-hundred-thousand-dollars shortfall and declining enrollment as reasons for the closure. Only forty-students are enrolled this school year.

WV House calls for investigation into hospital owner

The state House of Delegates adopted a resolution calling for an investigation into the business practices of Alecto Health Care Services, which owns Fairmont Regional Medical Center, and also owned the now closed Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling. The resolution says Alecto promised to improve its bottom line in 2014, and that didn’t happen.
