Abandoned apartment building destroyed in fire

Five fire departments were on the scene of a fire at an abandoned apartment building in Jefferson. The building on MacCorkle Avenue was destroyed in the blaze. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Senate rejects bill to cut funding for greyhound racing

The state Senate rejected a bill to cut state funding for greyhound racing. The bill would have ended 17-million-dollars in subsidies that benefit dog racing breeders and handlers. A WVU study found that greyhound racing generates 17-hundred jobs, and legislators say the Wheeling area can’t afford the job loss.

Gallo resigns as Community Relations Coordinator

The City of Charleston Community Relations Coordinator, Alexandra Gallo, has resigned. She was arrested last November for forcing her way into her Grandmother’s home to retrieve her child. Gallo pleaded guilty to battery, public intoxication and trespassing. The city has not made a decision if a replacement will be hired.

Bomb squad secures incendiary device

Sanitation workers in West Portsmouth found a box that appeared to contain an explosives device. The bomb squad determined it was a military grade incendiary device and disposed of it at the secure facility.

Man accused of firing shots with AK-47

A Nitro man is accused of firing shots from an AK-47 at a business and at his apartment. Thirty-year-old Gregory Blaylock is charged with wanton endangerment. No one was hurt. Blaylock suffers from PTSD and told officer people were following him, so he fired at them.

Bank Teller accused of embezzlement

A South Charleston bank teller is accused of embezzling over 200-thousand-dollars from the Pioneer West Virginia Federal Credit Union. Dianne Richardson worked as a vault manager and falsified records to conceal cash shortages over a six year period.

Morgantown Moves to Lower Marijuana Penalties

The Morgantown City Council approved an ordinance this week that lowers the penalty for possession of marijuana to a misdemeanor with a $15 fine. Woman Gets Probation for Leaving Her Baby in a Hot Car

Kanawha County prosecutors said a woman accused of leaving her 3-month-old baby inside a hot car at the Walmart at Southridge Centre pleaded guilty to charges Tuesday.
