Governor establishes rural health care task force

Governor Justice will establish a task force to deal with the challenges of rural health care. He says the state’s major medical providers, including CAMC and WVU medicine, will be involved to help solve the rural care dilemma. Several West Virginia hospitals have filed for bankruptcy or closed in recent months.

WV Senators split impeachment vote along party lines

West Virginia’s two U.S. Senators split their votes in President Trump’s impeachment trial. Senator Shelley Moore Capito voted to acquit the President on both articles of impeachment, and Senator Joe Manchin voted guilty. The full Senate voted to acquit the President.

New Charleston police chief sworn in

Charleston has a new police chief. James “Tyke” Hunt was sworn in on Wednesday by Mayor Amy Goodwin. Hunt has been with the department for fifteen years and will take over from outgoing police Chief Opie Smith who announced his retirement.

Barboursville is getting a new sports complex

The Barboursville Village Council approved nearly two-million dollars to a multi-use recreational facility at Barboursville City Park. The first phase will include football, baseball and lacrosse fields, and will be completed this summer. The next phase will include an indoor sports complex.

Woman overdoses with kids at home

A Charleston woman is charged with child neglect after overdosing on heroin with two kids at home. Officers found her unresponsive in a bedroom and she came around with Narcan. Police found drugs, paraphernalia and syringes within reach of two children under the age of ten.

State personnel on stnadby for possible flooding

Governor Justice is putting several state agencies on standby to respond to potential flooding. Heavy rainfall with the potential for flooding will continue through Friday morning. A flood watch is in effect for thirteen counties, including Kanawha County.
